PART ONE of a long list of New Testament scriptures guaranteeing the believer’s eternal security – collected and with comments by Paul Ellis. So much to be THANKFUL for! Let this living Word of God dwell in you richly! LR
- Matthew 7:11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! God’s gifts are good and he never takes them back (Rom 11:29).
- Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. End of discussion.
- Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! God’s “how much more” gifts are good. They don’t come with expiry dates.
- Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. If Jesus is able to save lost sinners, he is surely able to save straying Christians.
- John 1:12-13 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. A born again child of God cannot be unborn. God does not unchild his children.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. His life is eternal, not sporadic. His future is your future (see 1 John 4:17).
- John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Eternal life is not a distant reward for those who pass the test, but a present reality for those who believe and know the Lord.
- John 4:14 Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Jesus is referring to the Holy Spirit (see John 7:38-38). If you have the Spirit you have eternal life. And the Spirit abides with us forever (John 14:16-19).
- John 5:24 I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. And it’s a one-way trip!
- John 6:28-29 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” There is no deed that qualifies or disqualifies you. You are qualified by Christ.
- John 6:37 All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (ASV) Not now, not ever. God doesn’t make mistakes
- John 6:39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. The shepherd keeps his sheep.
- John 6:40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. Eternal life is something to experience now. It’s not a carrot on the end of a religious stick.
- John 6:47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. (ESV)
- John 6:53-54 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” Again and again Jesus says the believer has eternal life now and here he repeats the promise of v.40: “I will raise him up.”
- John 7:37-39 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. The indwelling Holy Spirit is the chief sign that we know we are saved. The Holy Spirit abides with us forever (John 14:16).
- John 8:35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. For-ev-er!
- John 10:14 I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. The responsibility for keeping the sheep lies with the shepherd (sheep aren’t smart enough to keep themselves), and Jesus knows his sheep.
- John 10:27-28 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. No one means no one.
- John 10:29-30 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one. Jesus holds you (v.28) and so does the Father!
- John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
- John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. The Holy Spirit is your never-leaving, never-gonna-give-you-up, guarantee.
- John 14:23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” When God moves in it’s permanent.
- John 15:16 It was not you who chose me; it was I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain. You have been chosen by God. God doesn’t choose poorly.
- John 17:9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. You belong to God.
- John 17:15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. You are divinely protected.
- John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. God makes us eternally holy.
- John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Everything that needed to be done has been done. The work of saving and sanctifying you was finished at the cross.
