46 Lies That Trap Many Christians – #13, #14 and #15

But Knowing The Truth Will Set You Free

Lie # 13 “God is personally offended by all sin and must be appeased by confessing sin to be forgiven.”

No, 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 and 1 John 2:2 state that, thanks to Jesus’ perfect sacrifice for all sins, God forgave the sins of the whole world (which means all sins of all mankind for all time) and Hebrews 8:12 states that God remembers our sins no more. How can He be offended by things He has decided to be mindful of no more. He is grieved by our sins because He knows how it demonstrates our lack of faith and trust in His goodness and love. Also, He sees how it hurts ourselves and often our relationships with others too. See Chapter Fourteen for more insight and also in my much smaller “Discovering …” book.

Lie # 14 “You must regularly confess your sins to God to remain in fellowship with Him.” See answer under Lie # 10 and in my “Discovering …” book .

Lie # 15 “Sinning causes a Christian to fall from grace.”

That is not what Jesus revealed to Paul, according to Galatians 5:4: “You, who are (attempting to be) justified by (keeping) the law, have done away with Christ. You have fallen from grace.” Sinning does not cut a believer off from Christ Jesus and His abundant grace, whose perfect sacrifice won forgiveness for the whole human race, according to 1 John 2:2. Where sin abounds grace abounds much more, says Romans 5:21b. But for those still depending on obedience to the law to stay right with God, it means adding one’s works to the grace Gospel which results in having no Gospel at all. Falling from grace comes from living according to the elephant of mixture instead of under Jesus’ Gospel of lavish grace.
