46 Lies That Trap Many Christians – #11 and #12

But Knowing The Truth Will Set You Free

Lie # 11 “The Holy Spirit uses every believer’s conscience to convict him of his sins.”

No, the Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to believers to convince them of their righteous position and condition in Christ. Because a believer is not under law, he need not be sin-conscious but can now be Jesus-conscious. This provides a clear conscience (see Hebrews 9:9-10). It is one of the many benefits of being in the New Covenant that the Law covenant could not provide. See Lie # 10 and Chapter Fourteen and in Chapter Eight of the “Discovering …” book for more explanation.

Lie # 12 “God only forgives your sins to the same degree that you forgive the sins of others.”

No, that fortunately is not true now for New Covenant believers. Jesus gave that direction to His disciples, pre-cross, in what is now called the “Our Father.” This was a seeming improvement over animal sacrifices for sins. But one’s forgiveness was conditional on how well he “performed” by forgiving others. This is obviously still based on the “works of the Law” rather than on grace. But that all changed with the divine exchange when Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world and then gave believers the terms of a New Covenant that made all things new spiritually. For a fuller explanation, see Appendix #2 on the Our Father in my Elephant book.

Coming Next Week: Lies # 13 and #14 that often confuse many Christians. REMEMBER: Wrong believing which leads to wrong living. Conversely, right believing leads to right and prosperous living in Christ. Contact me (below) with any comments or questions about the content of this Blog. Lenny
